History

In our History lessons, children find evidence, weigh it up and reach their own conclusions. To do this we develop their skills in researching, sifting through evidence, and arguing for their point of view. Our pupils learn about real people who lived, and real events, which happened in the past. We help our pupils to develop a sense of identity as they are able to understand sequence, time and chronology through their studies of evidence about the past. We use History to fire our pupils’ curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world, preparing them for living and working in the contemporary world.

Much of our history curriculum is taught through themes throughout the year, often linking to high quality texts used in our English lessons.

We use our local area where possible, to enable our pupils to develop a passion and appreciation for how their locality has changed over time under the beliefs, cultures and politics that embody it.
